Two sets of Patio Doors facing the lake...

As you can see from the picture, the view from the deck will help you to unwind, relax, reconnect and rejuvenate and thus the deck will probably be one of your favorite spots during your stay. With 2 sets of patio doors facing the lake, you can enjoy basically the same view inside the cottage while eating at the table or chilling out or cuddling on the bed.

New Pine Siding, Spring 2002...

Up until this year, we have concentrated on making the interior of Sunset comfortable and appealing. We do admit that the current exterior photos do not paint it in the best light. During the spring of 2002, Sunset will get all new pine siding and we are sure the result will be very pleasing to the eye.

Also known as Honeymoon Cottage...

Sunset, which we also affectionately call the Honeymoon cottage, appeals to couples of all ages. We have been happily surprised by the number of couples who call to book and say that the marriage proposal had been made and accepted while staying at Blue Moon and they want to return (sometimes even for their Honeymoon). Please inform JoAnne if you are booking for your Honeymoon as we do try to do a couple of extra things (at no extra cost).

Compact; but, Comfortable and Complete...

Of our six cottages (on 20+ acres), this is the most compact - only 3 rooms - bedroom, bathroom and combined kitchen, dining and living room. The living space is much expanded with decks both on the lake side and the rear of the cottage.

It has a 3 piece bathroom - toilet, bath tub and vanity sink. The room is paneled in natural pine which gives a very warm look. There is no shower; but, there are central showers (and laundry facilities) available. Please bring your own beach towels and toiletries.

The main room acts as kitchen, dining and living room. With patio doors facing the lake and several larger windows, the room is bright and airy. If you step through the patio doors then you are on the lakeside deck. You will probably find the silver birch half logs on the wall somewhat unique.

The kitchen has a fridge, stove/range, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster and is equipped with pots and pans, utensils, dishes and silverware. Being on vacation, most people do a great deal of the cooking on the provided gas barbeque (gas supplied).

For your entertainment...

For your entertainment, a satellite connection for the TV provides both television and music. A VCR is also provided. There is a limited library of videos and books to supplement those that you may bring with you. As Blue Moon Retreat is a small, friendly place, within a short while you will probably be able to extend the available selection by swapping with one of the neighbors. Decks of cards and board games are also provided.

Lie in bed and watch the lake...

There is just something about being able to lie in bed and look out at the lake through the patio doors at the foot of the bed. As the bedroom is somewhat compact, we are only able to provide a double bed. Depending on the time of year either a duvet or comforter is provided (naturally, along with all the linens.).

As you can see from the pictures, the furnishings and decorations are a blend of Canadian and European culture - we receive many favorable comments on the Canadian wildlife prints.

Enjoy the outdoors...

One of the joys of being at the cottage is enjoying the outdoors. We hope that the 2 decks, your own fire pit (with free firewood), comfortable outdoor furniture (picnic table and lawn furniture) and for added privacy, a wooden privacy fence, help in this important area.

Use the provided canoes, row boats or, pedal boats for fishing (fishing equipment not provided) or exploring the island or perhaps you might like swimming from the rafts, playing horseshoes, badminton, beach volleyball or tennis. As you can see from the logo / picture, sunsets over the lake can be quite breathtaking and many guests like to sit at the docks or beside the lake for this (with over 1,500 feet of lake frontage, there is no problem in getting a good vantage point).

Open May through Thanksgiving...

Sunset is only available from May (the best time to see moose in Algonquin Park) through Thanksgiving (just after the magnificent fall colors and related studio tours). As the spring and fall nights can be cool, the cottage is all insulated and has electric heat. The 8 person hot tub and cedar lined sauna at the Wellness Centre are always popular; but, especially so in the cooler shoulder seasons.
