Enhancements / Upgrades ...

In 2001 & 2002 ...

we started a multi-year project to upgrade the Maples from a comfortable, spacious cottage to a luxury one. We started in 2001 with renovations of the master bedroom and the installation of satellite TV. We continued in the spring of 2002 with an enlargement and upgrade of the 2nd bedroom. At the same time, we redid the dining area and upgraded several of the major appliances. In the fall of 2002, we added a gas fireplace to complement the existing electric heat.

2003 through 2006 ...

we made major renovations to the living room, kitchen and bathroom (added a jacuzzi bathtub) and added laundry facilities (washer & dryer). Then in 2006, replaced the two patio doors in the master bedroom, added an air conditioner, a DVD player, bottled water dispenser (water provided), and upgraded the satellite service to 200+ TV channels and 90+ radio channels/stations.

Spring of 2007 ...

we added a private wellness room to the Maples - it has its own large hot tub, sauna, 2nd bathroom and small relaxing area - these will all be available before July 1st long weekend. We also got a start on adding a 2nd large deck and redoing the outside all in pine - due to bookings we will only be able to complete the full 2nd deck and the siding between the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Accordingly, by the start of the 2008 season, Maples will be completely a luxury cottage - rates will be adjusted to reflect this. Rent in 2007 and get all the added 'goodies' at no extra cost. To our "fleet" of canoes, row boats and paddle boats we added cottage kayaks - naturally, the use of all is complimentary. In May of 2007, we also started our Partner Discount program so our clients get discounts at various local businesses and services; i.e. golf (15% off), spa treatments (10% off), horseback riding, family river rafting, theatre, etc - see sample coupons for full details.

Spacious, Bright and Airy...

The Maples is quite spacious for a 2 bedroom cottage as it has about 1,000 square feet (over 90 sq meters) of living space complemented with a front deck which is over 600 square feet (58 sq meters). This gives you lots of room to relax and just chill out. The new back deck is fairly small; but, will be expanded before the 2008 season.

With 5 sets of patio doors and several large windows, it is quite bright and airy and you can enjoy the outdoors even when indoors.

Comfortable and Complete ...

The Maples has a full main bathroom - toilet, Jacuzzi bath tub (including shower) and vanity sink. There is now a 2nd small bathroom with shower in the Wellness Spa. Laundry facilities (washer & dryer) are located just off the master bedroom. Please bring your own beach towels and toiletries.

The main living area is open concept and acts as kitchen, dining and living room. 
The kitchen has a fridge, stove/range, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and toaster and is equipped with pots and pans, utensils, dishes and silverware. Being on vacation, most people do a great deal of the cooking on the provided gas barbeque (gas supplied).

For your entertainment...

For your entertainment, the cottage has a TV, VCR and DVD player, with satellite connections providing both television (200+ channels) and radio/music (90+ channels/stations). There is a limited library of videos and books to supplement those that you may bring with you. As Blue Moon Retreat is a small, friendly place, within a short while you will probably be able to extend the available selection by swapping with one of the neighbours. Decks of cards and board games are also provided.

For rest, relaxation and rejuvenation...

Your biggest problem may be deciding what to do next - soak in the Jacuzzi tub, lounge in the hot tub, sweat any cares away in the sauna, or catch a movie or the game on TV. All of this available 7 x 24 in your own Maples cottage.

Bedrooms...

The 2 bedrooms are at opposite ends of the cottage, which provides added privacy. With the dining/living area adjacent to the 2nd bedroom and away from the master bedroom, we have been recommending the Maples especially to families with older children as they can remain up later without disturbing the parents who want to retire earlier. As the new wellness spa has been added straight opposite of the living room, our recommendation is probably now even more valid.

The master bedroom has been refinished in natural pine and has a queen size bed. As noted above, the 2nd bedroom has just been enlarged and refinished and now contains a queen size bed and a single bed. Depending on the time of year either a duvet or comforter is provided (naturally, along with all the linens.). The coach in the common room is a sofa bed for additional sleeping space.

Enjoy the outdoors

One of the joys of being at the cottage is enjoying the outdoors. We hope that the very large deck, your own fire pit (with free firewood),and outdoor furniture help in this important area.

Use the provided canoes, row boats, cottage kayaks or, pedal boats for fishing (fishing equipment not provided) or exploring the island or perhaps you might like swimming from the rafts, playing horseshoes, badminton, beach volleyball or tennis. Sunsets over the lake can be quite breathtaking and many guests like to sit at the docks or beside the lake for this (with over 1,500 feet of lake frontage, there is no problem in getting a good vantage point).

Open Easter through New Years...

Maples is open all year except for the coldest winter months of January, February and March. As the spring and fall nights can be cool to cold, the cottage is all insulated and has a gas fireplace and electric heat. The Jacuzzi tub & fireplace in Maples have been popular. We expect that the newly added private Wellness Spa (hot tub and cedar lined sauna) will also be quite popular year round; but, especially so in the cooler seasons.
