Major Renovations & Longer Season ...

In the spring of 2001, we started a project to upgrade the Maples from a comfortable, spacious cottage (on which we got very positive feedback) to a luxury one. We started in 2001 with renovations of the master bedroom and the installation of satellite TV. We continued in the spring of 2002 with an enlargement and upgrade of the 2nd bedroom. At the same time, we also redid the dining area and upgraded several of the major appliances. We are quite pleased with the results to date and believe you will be too.

Starting in 2002, the Maples will be open right through the fall and only close after New Years. In the fall of 2002, a gas fireplace will be added to complement the existing electric heat.

Spacious, Bright and Airy...

The Maples is quite spacious for a 2 bedroom cottage as it has about 750 square feet (70 sq meters) of living space complemented with a deck which is over 600 square feet (58 sq meters). This gives you lots of room to relax and just chill out.

With 6 sets of patio doors and several large windows, it is quite bright and airy and you can enjoy the outdoors even when indoors.

Comfortable and Complete...

The Maples has a 3 piece bathroom - toilet, bath tub (including shower) and vanity sink. If additional toilet facilities are required, there are central washrooms and showers (and laundry facilities) available close by. Please bring your own beach towels and toiletries.

The main living area is open concept and acts as kitchen, dining and living room.
The kitchen has a fridge, stove/range, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and toaster and is equipped with pots and pans, utensils, dishes and silverware. Being on vacation, most people do a great deal of the cooking on the provided gas barbeque (gas supplied).

For your entertainment...

For your entertainment, a satellite connection for the TV provides both television and music. A VCR is also provided. There is a limited library of videos and books to supplement those that you may bring with you. As Blue Moon Retreat is a small, friendly place, within a short while you will probably be able to extend the available selection by swapping with one of the neighbors. Decks of cards and board games are also provided.

Bedrooms...

The 2 bedrooms are at opposite ends of the cottage, which provides added privacy. With the dining/living area adjacent to the 2nd bedroom and away from the master bedroom, we recommend the Maples especially to families with older children as they can remain up later without disturbing the parents who want to retire earlier.

The master bedroom has been refinished in natural pine and has a queen size bed. As noted above, the 2nd bedroom has just been enlarged and refinished and now contains a queen size bed and a single bed. Depending on the time of year either a duvet or comforter is provided (naturally, along with all the linens.). The coach in the common room is a sofa bed for additional sleeping space.

Enjoy the outdoors...

One of the joys of being at the cottage is enjoying the outdoors. We hope that the 2 decks, your own fire pit (with free firewood), comfortable outdoor furniture (picnic table and lawn furniture) and for added privacy, a wooden privacy fence, help in this important area.

Use the provided canoes, row boats or, pedal boats for fishing (fishing equipment not provided) or exploring the island or perhaps you might like swimming from the rafts, playing horseshoes, badminton, beach volleyball or tennis. As you can see from the logo / picture, sunsets over the lake can be quite breathtaking and many guests like to sit at the docks or beside the lake for this (with over 1,500 feet of lake frontage, there is no problem in getting a good vantage point).

Open April through New Years...

Maples is open all year except for the coldest winter months of January, February and March. As the spring and fall nights can be cool to cold, the cottage is all insulated and has a gas fireplace and electric heat. The Jacuzzi tub & fireplace in Maples itself, and the 8 person hot tub and cedar lined sauna at the Wellness Centre are always popular; but, especially so in the cooler seasons.
