4 Seasons Cottage Resort near Algonquin Park
To see and do in the area
- Introduction -
Please note that there is a 2002 daily use fee of $12 CDN ($7.63 U.S; 5.00 UK Pounds; 7.86 euros at August 10, 2002 fx rates)/vehicle (cars & trucks) which includes entrance to the Park, access to all trails, museums, beaches, picnic grounds, and facilities (except the Algonquin Gallery which has an additional charge). We normally stop at the East Gate and pay this. From Blue Moon Retreat you can get to the East gate by either of 2 routes. One goes via Maynooth, Lake St Peter and Whitney; while the other goes via Combermere, Barrys Bay, Madawaska and Whitney. They are both about the same distance and we normally go one way and come back the other.
A Recommendation: On the way back from the park if it is getting close to supper time, return via highway 60 through Madawaska towards Barrys Bay. About halfway in between the two turn right onto Spectacle Lake Road and when you follow it a short ways you reach Spectacle lake Lodge: It has a great location right at the edge of the water and it is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. An alternative is stopping at Fortune’s Madawaska Inn which is on your left about 1 mile before entering Barrys Bay.
It should be noted that sites along the highway 60 corridor are referenced as being at a certain km. The west gate is km 0, while (as I recall) the east gate is about km 60 (mile 37).
